Frequently Asked Questions
How often will my child visit the library?
Kindergarten students visit the library once every six days throughout the school year as part of their specials schedule. Students in grades 1-6 visit the library once every six days during a rotating five week schedule. When classes are not in their library rotation, special arrangements are made for book exchange. All students in grades K-6 have the opportunity to borrow books throughout the school year.
How many books is my child allowed to borrow?
Students in grades 2-6 are allowed to borrow up to two books at a time. Students in Kindergarten and grade 1 are allowed to borrow one book at a time. How long is the borrowing period?
The borrowing period for books is six days, or until their next scheduled library visit.
What if my child forgets to return his or her book on library day?
If a student forgets to bring in his or her book on library day, s/he may still make a book selection. We reserve the chosen book for two days, during which time the student can exchange his or her book. After the two day grace period the selections are returned to the library shelves.
What happens if my child's library book becomes damaged?
If a library book becomes damaged, it should be returned to the library as soon as possible. We will assess the damage to determine if the book can be repaired. If the damage is too great and the book cannot be repaired, we will send a letter home requesting payment for a replacement copy. You may also purchase a replacement copy and send it to us.
What happens if my child's library book is lost?
If a library book is lost, we allow some time for it to be found before sending a letter requesting payment for a replacement copy. While the book is outstanding, it remains in the student's account as a borrowed book. Once the book is found or payment is received, full borrowing privileges will be restored to the student.
Can I donate books to the library?
From time to time, we accept book donations for the library depending on collection needs. New or gently used hardcover editions are always preferred as they stand up better to the rigorous conditions of library borrowing. If you would like to make a book donation, please first contact Sarah Swift [email protected] or 508-347-7041.
